SLFP considers action on MR

01 Sep 2019

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is contemplating disciplinary action against Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa for taking up the leadership post of another political party. General Secretary of the SLFP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara told The Sunday Morning that the matter had been discussed during the Working Committee meeting last week. “We discussed this issue during the SLFP Working Committee meeting last week. It is completely illegal to become the leader of a political party when that individual is a member of another political party.” MP Jayasekara went on to say that it was a grave infraction and could result in the loss of the Opposition Leader’s parliamentary seat. “It is a serious offence which could result in him losing his seat. So we are discussing this matter presently and expect to take action in the future,” he said.
