At a ceremony to mark the 62nd death anniversary of S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga alleged that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has destroyed the Bandaranaike name.
She made these statements while responding to questions from journalists who asked if the SLFP organised an event to mark the 62nd death anniversary of S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike.
“The Party has not organised anything. This was organised by the Bandaranaike family. We were the ones who did it. Mrs. Bandaranaike made arrangements to conduct such events. The Party has destroyed the Bandaranaike name,” she said.
Kumaratunga also stated that for five years, there were Presidents and Chairmen in the Party, but they only visited the final resting place of S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike once.
Meanwhile, former President Maithripala Sirisena who was also present said that acting according to S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike’s policy and vision will be the best form of respect to him.
“We will continue his vision and work plan for the country’s future,” he stated.
