The proposed alliance between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) was today registered before the Elections Commission.
Accordingly, the registration papers of the Sri Lanka Freedom People's Alliance (Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandhanaya) were handed over to the Elections Commission this morning.
The Elections Commission has approved the request to register the alliance, The Sunday Morning learns.
SLPP Leader, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has been named as the leader of the new alliance while SLFP Leader, former President Maithripala Sirisena will serve as the alliance chairman.
SLPP National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa will serve as the general secretary of the alliance.
