12 Jun 2020

The Association of Medical Specialists (AMS) has urged the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to conduct a disciplinary inquiry on the doctor who was involved in the failed money heist that took place at the Colombo General Hospital on Tuesday (9). AMS releasing a press statement said it was gravely concerned about the abortive attempt robbery, allegedly carried out by a medical officer in postgraduate training. The AMS stressed that doctors are expected to adhere to strict code of ethics laid down by SLMC. "We strongly believe that a swift inquiry should be instituted by the SLMC while legal procedures are in progress.  We hope that the incident will be given priority by the SLMC as this has become a matter of national interest." AMS said the inquiry will be an eye opener to introduce amendments to medical council with regard to disciplinery actions. AMS further requested the Department of Health services to commence its disciplinary inquiry into the officer.
