The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will continue talks on an alliance despite SLFP's announcement yesterday that it will field its own Presidential candidate, SLPP spokesperson Keheliya Rambukwalla said.
Speaking to the The Sunday morning Rambukwalla said the SLFP will know what needs to be done to defeat the United National Party (UNP).
Speaking further he said the SLPP was unaffected by yesterday's announcement.
When asked if President Maithripala Sirisena was the candidate for the SLFP, he said "The President had not officially or unofficially declared that he will be the candidate of the SLPP."
Meanwhile, MP Namal Rajapakse in a tweet yesterday said :
SLFP has already named former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa as its presidential candidate.It will be interesting to see who the SLFP will nominate as its presidential candidate. Seems like there may still be some uncertainty within the party. Hope #SriLanka President @MaithripalaS won’t end up finding out through the newspapers.
