'SLT Speed Up Cycle Sawariya' begins

The longest cycle race in Sri Lanka, 'SLT Speedup Cycle Sawariya (bicycle tour) - 2019', will hold its men’s race on Tuesday, September 24 at 8.30 a.m. commencing from Galle Face Green. It will be held through Panadura, Ratnapura, Embilipitiya, Wellawaya, Bandarawela, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Vauniya, and Trincomalee ending at Dambulla on 28 September. The two-day women’s race will commence on Friday, 27 September starting from Colombo, travelling through Kurunegala, to finish on Saturday, 28 September also at Dambulla. Marking another significant milestone in cycling of the country, the first-ever competitive cycling event for juniors, to be held as a one-day event, will be held on Saturday, 28 September, starting from Dambulla covering Kekirawa and Habarana before finishing at Dambulla. The overall winner of the men’s race will receive a handsome cash prize of Rs. one million while the overall best team will be awarded Rs. 100,000. The overall winner of women’s race will secure a cash prize worth Rs. 250,000. The winner of the junior (boys) event will receive a cash prize of Rs. 100,000.
