People must take responsibility and strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the health services, especially with regard to social/physical distancing.
Presidential Task Force Media Spokesperson Prof. Charitha Herath said that despite the directives provided by the health authorities, one section of the public was still indisciplined and failed to practise social distancing during the distribution of the Rs 5,000 voucher for low-income families.
“We have to take measures to help vulnerable groups, so the distribution of the Rs. 5,000 voucher is critical. But we see that people are still not following health service protocols in social situations,” he said.
He went on to note that the Government’s hands were tied in this instance with regard to people flouting the rule to practise social distancing.
“What more can we do? It’s not as though we can punish people for not practising social distancing. People have to understand the severity of the situation and act responsibly,” he said.
