Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Eran Wickramaratne lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday (21) against several social media reports that said he had funded Zahran Hashim’s wife.
Speaking to The Morning, Wickramaratne said the allegations were completely untrue.
In his complaint, the MP said false and malicious stories are being spread on social media, alleging that he had admitted to the CID that he had paid Easter Sunday attacks’ mastermind Hashim’s wife Rs. 5 million.
“The allegation is absolutely false. I have never met or seen the lady concerned. I have never funded the said lady and as such, I have not made a statement to the CID admitting such a payment.”
He said the false and malicious rumours are clearly an attempt to discredit his work in fighting for justice and the rule of law.
“These despicable attempts will not deter me in fulfilling my social obligations, both as a citizen and a Member of Parliament, from doing what is right,” he said.
