Further to the suicide of an army soldier early this morning, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M A Sumanthiran stated that the soldier was previously deployed to his security unit but upon request was then removed, and was no longer part of the security provided to himself. He made this statement today (04) on a twitter post. "After the incidents of the 9th of May, on the request of the gov parliamentarians, army security was provided for all parliamentarians. I called the officer concerned, Lt. Col. Gunatilleke and informed him that I did not want that security and that guard was promptly removed. Thereafter I found that this unit had moved down the lane well away from my house. Since similar guards were present at various street corners, I did not consider it my security," MP Sumanthiran stated. He further added that it was very unfortunate that one of the soldiers who had previously been deployed to him had committed suicide. Early this morning, an army personel had committed suicide in the empty land adjoining MP Sumanthiran's residence by shooting himself. Police stated that an investigation will be made into the intention of the said officer.
