The Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena stated in Parliament today (20) that a solution will be provided in the coming days to prevent the rise in prices of Keeri Samba and other samba rice.
The Minister of Trade emphasized that the prices of Nadu, Samba and raw rice were below Rs. 100 during the festive season and that only the price of Keeri Samba could not be controlled.
The Minister was responding to a question raised by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Hesha Vithanage.
He said that paddy was procured at very competitive prices through the Ministry of Agriculture. He said that the previous government did not buy paddy for fear of various threats and that the present government is not afraid of such threats.
