South Africa tour to go ahead

[caption id="attachment_108481" align="aligncenter" width="454"] SL recorded a historic Test series win against SA in SA last year[/caption] Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) Thursday (10) evening confirmed that the scheduled tour of Sri Lanka in South Africa for two Test matches would go ahead as planned. There were speculations that the series might be either postponed or held in Sri Lanka instead, on a later date, due to fear of the spread of Covid-19 in South Africa. Two-match Test series between South Africa and Sri Lanka sponsored by Betway: Saturday, 26-30 December 2020 - 1st Test at SuperSport Park, Centurion Sunday, 3-7 January 2021 - 2nd Test at Imperial Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg CSA and SLC confirm Betway Test series SLC said the following in a media release on Thursday: “Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are pleased to jointly confirm the two-match, Betway Test Series scheduled to be played in Centurion and Johannesburg from 26 December, will continue as planned. “The series, which forms part of the ICC World Test Championship, is still on course and the organisations look forward to a successful and competitive clash between two teams that are equally thrilled to return to red-ball action. “Discussions SLC held with the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of Sri Lanka, Honorable Namal Rajapaksa ended with the decision to honour the commitments made under the FTP (the ICC’s Future Tours Programme). This was followed by an assessment conducted by the SLC Medical Unit headed by Professor Arjuna De Silva, who advised SLC to proceed with the series. “The Sri Lanka men’s team will leave for South Africa as scheduled, while Head Coach Mickey Arthur, accompanied by a health specialist will travel with immediate effect to South Africa to further assess the situation and make necessary arrangements for the team’s arrival.”
