The COVID-19 variant prominent in South Africa has been detected in Sri Lanka, stated the Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of the Sri Jayewardenepura University, Dr. Chandima Jeewandara.
He stated that this was the latest variant that was discovered in Sri Lanka and that this virus variant is more contagious.
Previously, several patients were found from Colombo, Avissawella, Biyagama and Vavuniya with the UK variant of the virus.
