The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) says Speaker Karu Jayasuriya can convene Parliament even if President Maithripala Sirisena refuses to do so.
TNA Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran told reporters that the Speaker was briefed on the authority he has to convene Parliament, when party leaders met him yesterday.
Sumanthiran said party leaders expect the Speaker to convene Parliament on Friday.
He also said the TNA has not decided on who it will support in Parliament.
The MP also said that the meeting TNA leader R. Sampanthan had with Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday was in Rajapaksa's capacity as an MP and not Prime Minister.
