The Speaker of the Parliament Karu Jayasuriya has refuted a news report published by a national newspaper claiming he exerted undue influence on the Police Commission.
“The news paper article published on the 27th of December says that the speaker had called officers of the Police Commission and exerted unnecessary influence. This is competently false and the speaker denies this allegation.”the Speaker's media unit said in a press statement today.
The Speaker’s media division has also stated the Police Commission be contacted to confirm the truth behind the story.
Jayasuriya has further stated that this is an attempt by a few politicians to tarnish his reputation.
