Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today turned down UNP parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake's request for a special statement.
Ramanayake who is currently in remand custody over exerting undue influence on judges was escorted to Parliament in a Prison bus today.
When he requested for an opportunity to make a special statement in parliament, the Speaker said according to standing orders he was not able to provide an opportunity to Ramanayake.
Jayasuriya however requested Ramanayake to write to him in regard to his request.
The Speaker also noted that he will try talking to the Chief whip to get a time slot for Ramanayake within today's parliamentary session.
