A special discussion between the Vice Chancellors of universities and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to be held today (02).
The discussion will be held at Temple Trees at 5.00 pm, said University Grants Commission Chairman Prof. Sampath Amaratunga.
The Chairman said following the increase in the number of students enrolled in universities, the allocations received to maintain the universities and the number of existing buildings in the universities are insufficient.
For the first time, the universities have enrolled the largest number of additional students this year.
That number is 10,600 and the total number of students enrolled in universities this year has risen to 42,000, he said.
