Special focus on regulating sports authorities and e-sports: Namal

The government has initiated a program to regulate sports authorities and e-sports, the Minister of Sports, Namal Rajapaksa said in Parliament today (21). The Minister said this while inaugurating the debate on the gazette notification issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency in 2021 on banned substances including banned stimulants introduced for various sports. Speaking further, the Minister said that in the last few months, the laboratory in Sri Lanka for the testing of banned stimulants has been transformed into one of the most equipped laboratories in South Asia. The Minister said that in the future, special attention will be paid to the field of sports, sports for fitness, creating internationally winning sports teams and developing the sports economy in the country and e-sports. The Minister said that this is a time when sports in the country are moving in the right direction and the initial process of registering fitness centers at various places in the country has already commenced. He also said that steps will be taken to regulate sports associations and standardize the managers of athletes. The Minister said that drugs are a major threat to society today and that there are a large number of young people in the country who are addicted to drugs such as cocaine and others.
