The Police have launched a special operation islandwide that would be in place till Monday (11) to arrest curfew violators.
An islandwide curfew was imposed at 8 p.m. on Wednesday (6) till 5 a.m. on Monday.
The Police Media Division said that despite the curfew, people yesterday (7) engaged in religious observances staying at home on Vesak Full Moon Poya Day.
The Police Media Division further said that a total number of 48,391 persons along with 12,574 vehicles have so far been apprehended for violating the curfew since 20 March.
According to reports published by the Police Media Division, the total number of persons arrested yesterday from 12-6 p.m. was 409, along with 90 vehicles.
