Special Samatha Mandala or Mediation Boards would be established at district level to resolve land and financial disputes and the activities of mediation boards which were suspended due to COVID-19 would be resumed from January 9 next year, the Justice Ministry said today.
This was decided at a meeting held between Minister Mohamed Ali Sabry and the members of the Mediation Boards Commission at the Ministry yesterday.
Steps have been taken to set up these Special Mediation Boards to settle land and financial disputes since a large number of complaints have been made in this regard.
Under the first phase, mediation boards will be set up in Gampaha, Kurunegala, Kandy and Anuradhapura Districts where a higher number of complaints have been reported.
Meanwhile, it has been decided to hold mediation board sittings for six days a month instead of four.
