Spider Man: No Way Home

  • Not a perfect film, but when did that stop the fanboys?
Whether you’re a marvel fan or not, you’ve most likely heard of the latest entry to the marvel cinematic universe – Spider Man: No Way Home. Spider-Man may be one of the most well-known characters in all of popular culture, and the IP (intellectual property) has been incredibly sought after and is currently living many lives at the hands of numerous studios. While it’s turned the Spider-Man IP into one of the most controversial character IPs, it has also created space for fans to hope and expect better iterations of the character via multiple mediums. The “no way home” Spider-Man, at the hands of Director Jon Watts and its star Tom Holland returning as the titular character, represent the most recent representation of the character. And to be honest, while the film itself is not by any means a perfect film – it has many flaws, one of which is its aggressive mediocrity – as fans of Spider-Man, we did not care one bit. It didn’t matter that this was at times just a teaser to how much better Spider-Man films can actually be or how the film was somewhat attempting to look better by association to the far better works that came before it. None of that really mattered when the nostalgia kicked in and you were able to see what could only be seen as a miracle, had it not been for a juggernaut of a studio (Disney) deciding to tackle these IPs, to create the marvel cinematic universe and grow to such an extent that they can quite literally bring to life the craziest of fanboy fantasies. Being Spider-Man fanatics, we have watched the film three times already in three different theatres. Just to make sure, we got the full experience and the full extent of the technology available on the island, going to the Majestic theaters, Scope Cinemas, and PVR Cinemas. While each cinema has its own merits, the best part in all of these was the audience enthusiasm. While hooting fanboys can be the biggest turn off on a majority of occasions, Spider-Man: No Way Home proved to be the exception as on our first viewing, two men in their 20s started to openly sob when it was finally time for one of the most anticipated reveals of the film and we couldn’t help but get swept away in that emotion. It was “epic”, not the film or anything else that we can pinpoint, just the simple feeling of being here to witness what felt like history in the making – an impossible triumph. You may say we’re really overhyping this, when really it’s just another Marvel film, and you might be right, but we can’t help ourselves. The inner fanboy is too strong! And even if you are not intimately acquainted with two decades of previous Spider-Man films and have no idea why amongst the teens there are people in their mid to late 20s losing their minds and cheering at the screen, we think it’ll still be an entertaining film to watch. You’ll be treated to likeable heroes with relatable character development and some action sequences that aren’t complete CGI sludge, and even if you’re not a fan, the emotional punches will still be present; they’ll likely just hit differently, but they’ll hit all the same. We’ve taken great care not to spoil the film for you here; we’ve barely spoken about what to expect because it’s really experienced fresh and without much expectation. The internet has really ruined a lot of it for a lot of us and we just didn’t want to do that to our readers, so we recommend that you do yourself a favour and go catch this film in theaters because it really is worth it. And do it before the internet spoils the entire thing for you with its awful memes.
