All of the Rocky movies are outstanding. After the 1976 first movie, four parts followed in 1979, 1982, 1985, and 1990 before the movie Rocky Balboa in 2006. The above six are considered to be the original Rocky franchise film series. The 2015 movie Creed is regarded a spin-off from Rocky. Creed II and Creed III were released in 2018 and 2022 respectively.
Rocky won the Oscar for Best Picture. Starring and written by Sylvester Stallone, it was directed by John G. Avildsen.
It tells ‘the rags to riches’ American dream story of Rocky Balboa, an uneducated, kind-hearted, working-class Italian-American, small-time club fighter who, while working as a debt collector for a loan shark in the slums of Philadelphia, gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship.
With the help of his trainer Mickey, his wife Adrian, his brother-in- law Pauly, and his friends, Rocky wins the title and becomes one of the greatest fighters of all time.
Rocky became the highest-grossing film of 1976. The film was critically acclaimed and established Stallone’s career.
Critics consider Rocky one of the greatest sports films ever made and the American Film Institute ranked it the second-best in the genre, after Raging Bull, in 2008.
