Sri Lanka climbs up to 65th place in the world hunger index

15 Oct 2021

The Global Hunger Index (GHI) has ranked Sri Lanka in the 65th place for countries that are in "hunger". Statistics from the year 2000 are shown on the website, and Sri Lanka has so far been on an upward trend since then. Whilst reporting that in the year 2000, 21.9% of the population was in hunger, which as per the GHI is a serious figure, Sri Lanka has climbed to a staggering -26.9%, which is now considered as a low hunger rate. For the 2021 GHI report, data was assessed for 135 countries. Out of these, there were sufficient data to calculate 2021 GHI scores for and rank 116 countries (by way of comparison, 107 countries were ranked in the 2020 report).
