Sri Lanka pledges $ 5 m to SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has pledged a sum of $ 5 m to the SAARC COVID-19 emergency fund. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi suggested the formation of an emergency fund when leaders of SAARC nations discussed, on 15th March, over video conferencing, ways to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Following the discussion, Modi proposed to contribute $10 m to the fund. Following suit, the Bhutanese Government, this week, announced that it will contribute $100,000 to fund, while the Afghan Government said it will contribute of $ 1 m. Meanwhile, the Government of Maldives joined the initiative and pledged $200,000 to the fund.
