Sri Lanka thanks 11 countries for showing 'solid support' at Geneva

Sri Lanka this evening thanked the 11 countries that voted against the UN Resolution on Sri Lanka for their 'solid support' shown at the UNHRC in Geneva. Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said, "Sri Lanka wishes to extend a very warm Thank You for solid support shown at Geneva by Bangladesh, Bolivia, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Somalia, Uzbekistan and Venezuela." A total of 22 countries voted in support of the resolution while 11 countries voted against it and in favour of Sri Lanka. Fourteen countries including India and Japan abstained from voting. Minister Gunawardena meanwhile said Sri Lanka also appreciates the support shown at Geneva by the countries that abstained from voting for the resolution.
