Sri Lanka will host a regional conference in October with the participation of over 150 youth leaders from the region and Europe, as well as a few high level officials from the World Economic Forum (WEF). Despite the cancellation or postponement of several MICE (Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) events since the Easter attack, this event is set to go ahead with full participation. The regional gathering of Global Shapers titled “Shape South Asia 2019” will be a 4 day immersive conference and is being organised by the two Global Shaper Hubs in Sri Lanka in Colombo and Kandy who won the bid to host jointly. The Opening ceremony of the event is expected to be graced by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The organisers said that hosting this conference will be a show of resilience and a message of positivity to the rest of the world that despite recent events, Sri Lanka is once again ready to host high level MICE Tourism events in the country. Born out of the World Economic Forum, the Global Shapers Community is a network of young people under the age of 30 working together to address local, regional and global challenges. With more than 7,000 members, the Global Shapers Community spans 369 city-based hubs in 171 countries.
