Sri Lankan tests positive for coronavirus in Italy

03 Mar 2020

A Sri Lankan has tested positive for the coronavirus in Italy, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The 46 year old female has been hospitalized in Brascia and is reportedly in a stable condition. Last week, two Sri Lankans who flew-in from Italy were admitted at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) on suspicion of having contracted the coronavirus. However, following test results the two patients were tested negative. The death toll from Italy’s coronavirus outbreak has risen to 52, an increase of 18 since Sunday, as the number of confirmed cases in Europe’s worst-hit country rose to 1,835. Several European countries have announced their first coronavirus cases, all apparently linked to the growing outbreak in Italy.
