Sri Lankans will have to push money around like in African countries: Marikkar

07 Jan 2022

People will have to push their money around like in African countries if the cost of living keeps rising and the Sri Lankan economy continues as such says Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP S M Marikkar. He made this statement during a media brief held yesterday (06). "If the Government is printing money and providing relief without any form of revenue, then inflation will increase. That means the cost of goods will increase further. If the cost of goods increase, will this Rs 5000 be sufficient? What will happen to Sri Lanka eventually is that the people will start moving their money around like in African countries," said Marikkar. He further questioned if the Rs 5000 was given to provide relief or with the intentions of gaining votes at the Provincial Council elections. "Was it done with the intention of gaining votes for the Provincial Council elections, even if it came at the cost of printing money, rising inflations and the rising cost of goods," he concluded.
