Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said that Sri Lanka’s economy cannot be developed as it has been governed by families for up to 70 years.
“We were under the rule of the Senanayake-Kothalawala family, followed by the Bandaranaike-Ratwatte family, and Jayawardene-Wickramanayake family and finally, since 2005, the Rajapaksa family,” he stated yesterday.
He said that it is impractical to blame all the 225 MPs in the Parliament as they were never in a position of power to debate decisions which were taken by the people with the same intention.
“One specialty of the Rajapaksa rule is that they are determined to bring all businesses and industries, regardless of scale, under their control. Further, they are unwilling to give up their power,” he said.
He stated that this was one of the main reasons why Sri Lanka’s economy cannot recover and that we need to overcome this in order to rise as a country with a sound economic vision in Asia.Sri Lanka's economy suffers because of one-family governments : Patali
