SriLankan to reduce flights

By Skandha Guanasekara SriLankan Airlines will be curtailing flights to certain countries in the fallout of the Easter Sunday terror attack, The Sunday Morning learnt. Media Spokesperson for SriLankan Airlines Deepal Perera said that several countries such as China had requested reduced flights to certain destinations in the country. “We haven’t stopped all flights but countries such as China have requested that we reduce the number of flights and especially to particular destinations.” A number of countries, including the US, UK, Canada, China, and the Nederlands, have issued travel warnings to their citizens, cautioning them about visiting Sri Lanka due to the Easter Sunday attacks and possible future terrorist threats. In addition, SriLankan Airlines will also not be implementing additional frequent flights to some destinations, especially in the European region. The tourism industry in Sri Lanka is expected to be hit hard as a result of the terrorist attack with the Finance Minister announcing to reporters just days after the attack that the Government expects a drop of 30% in tourist arrivals.
