NPC approves appointment of SSP Sujith Wedamulla as PNB Director

National Police Commission (NPC) has approved the appointment of SSP Sujith Wedamulla as Director of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).

Acting IGP C.D.Wickramaratna had earlier requested the NPC to transfer PNB DIG Sajeewa Medawatta and PNB Director SSP Manjula Senarath to facilitate an impartial inquiry into PNB officers suspected to have been involved in drug trafficking.

12 officers of the PNB were arrested yesterday (2) by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on charges of drug trafficking.

After the officers were produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court, the Court allowed the CID to detain the suspects until 8th July for further questioning.
