Stalin elected DMK president, Duraimurugan made treasurer
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) working president M.K. Stalin was unanimously elected as the president of the party in the general council on Tuesday.
Party’s Principal Secretary Duraimurugan was elected treasurer.
“As there no one else filed nomination, Mr. Stalin is elected for the post,” said party general secretary K. Anbazhagan.
A total of 1907 persons had either proposed or seconded Mr. Stalin’s name. In the case of Mr. Duraimurugan, 252 persons proposed and seconded his name, he said.
Recalling the late party president, M. Karunanidhi’s words “though I have not done anything as a father to Stalin, he had honoured me as a father,” Mr. Anbazhagan said Mr. Stalin, who was incarcerated during Emergency, became a Mayor of Chennai in 1996 and a minister in the DMK ministry in 2006 and Deputy Chief Minister in 2009.
