Stock market gains 4.7% this week on MR surge

The Colombo Stock Exchange's (CSE) All Share Price Index (ASPI) had gained 4.7% or 275.44 points to  6,107.40 from Monday morning to 2.10pm today (01). The more liquid S&P SL20 index had gained 230.59 points or 7.3% to reach 3,227.92 in the same period. The ASPI closed at 6,114.13 today, up 160.66 or 2.70% from yesterday while the S&P closed at 3,227.66, gaining 143.58 points or 4.66%. The day’s turnover was 1.5 billion. The biggest contributors to turnover from Monday to Wednesday were John Keells Holdings with Rs. 3.6 billion, Hatton National Bank with Rs. 558 million and Chevron Lubricants with Rs. 446 million. This is a continuation of the upward momentum seen since the appointment of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister on Friday evening, which has evidently energised investors.
