Sunny days: Skirt edition

19 Jul 2020

By Mahika Panditha I don’t know about you guys, but Sunday to me means waking up a little late, getting a good breakfast or going out for brunch with my friends, lounging around, and (the best part) SHOPPING! I tend to have a horrible habit of buying things I do not necessarily need but absolutely love. One thing I have been picking up consistently is skirts. As a tall girl, I feel like skirts just accentuate my height and if they are body hugging, it accentuates my curves. It just seems to me that there is a skirt style for everyone and girl, if you have not found the perfect one yet, I can guarantee you that NOW IS YOUR TIME! So get ready, ‘cause we’re going shopping. Colombo is full of beautiful finds and you can find your favourite piece right here in our homeland. As I said before, Covid-19 is still looming, so please do be safe when you are going shopping if you are not doing this online. It is vital that we take care of ourselves as well as be mindful of those around us. So without further ado, let’s get right into it. Satin midi Okay, you guys...I am starting with this purely out of my own personal bias and I am going to be honest with you on that! A satin midi has been a want of mine for about six or seven months and I finally got one last month. The thing about midi skirts is that you can dress them up and dress them down – it really is a multipurpose fit and you can adjust it accordingly. I absolutely adore the printed ones as well; since it is quite sunny these days, you can pair this with a crop top or a tied-up t-shirt. As for shoes, sneakers or sandals would work if you are doing a daytime outing. If you are opting for a nighttime situation, throw on some heels girl! I picked mine up from Shay Int. for my 21st birthday and it was an absolute hit. They have a gorgeous selection and the colours are to die for, so definitely do check it out. Pleats for days I feel like there is this crazy misconception that you cannot wear long skirts during a sunny day. You can! You just need to pick a good one. Like the above, pleated skirts are so multifunctional and you can wear them both during the day and night. I adore a long pleated skirt simply because it adds so much elegance to your outfit. I recently came across All About Lëila which stocks at Raaya Clothing and Accessories. They have a gorgeous selection of pleated skirts, and I am in love with this purple fit. You can throw on a shirt and tuck it in if you want to do a more formal or casual look, or you could opt for a backless crop top for a fun, sexy fit. I would personally go with some chunky gold jewelry, but do go ahead and pair it with your favourite pieces. It is a look! Ruffled wrap Aren’t wrap skirts just the cutest thing? I feel like you could rock a wrap skirt whenever and wherever. With that being said, a wrap skirt with ruffles? Say hello to double trouble because that is going to be one killer outfit! This fit would work so well for absolutely any event and they are so fun and fresh that you just cannot go wrong! Pandora’s Box has some of the most gorgeous pieces and this red Tabby skirt is just amazing. I would pair this with a t-shirt or a strappy crop top along with some simple and light jewellery. Animal print mini Most often than not, animal prints just work. Recently, I have seen a lot of leopard print or cow print showing up and being super fun and funky. I love it. I remember a time when zebra print was all the craze, and even cheetah print when The Cheetah Girls came out! When picking out miniskirts, I think it is important that you choose one that fits you well and makes you feel cute. If you are looking for something like that, I highly recommend checking out Sarala Vida Sri Lanka on the ‘gram! There is this beautiful leopard print mini that has a small slit on the leg and has a comfortable fit. It is just absolutely stunning and you can wear it out on a date, to the beach, or for lunch or even dinner! It works however and wherever. I would pair this with a baggy tucked-in black tee along with some black heels or a pair of black sneakers. And, of course, my signature gold hoops and a long gold necklace to bring it all together! Ruched mini This is another option for a miniskirt that I just love. It is so cute and goes with crop tops or even your favourite shirt. For me, a ruched skirt – long or short – adds a sense of fun and chicness; it teases at the skin, and is a great and exciting piece to wear when you are out with your friends or even just with the girls. I saw this one that I loved a few months ago – the ANITA skirt from Clothing by Chaos! The colour is just stunning and is a definite must-have. Personally, I would pair this with a black tube top with a statement necklace! PHOTOS Shay Int, Raaya Clothing and Accessories, Pandora’s Box, Sarala Vida Sri Lanka, Clothing by Chaos (Instagram)
