Sunny Side Up: Changing seats in the House

10 Jul 2021

The seating arrangement in the governing party benches in Parliament was changed last week following the entry of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa into Parliament as the new Finance Minister of the Government.  Rajapaksa was assigned seat number nine in the front row on the governing side. Accordingly, on to his left side is the seat allocated to the President and to his right is Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.  However, accommodating Rajapaksa in the front row as a senior minister of the Government resulted in the seats previously assigned to Ports Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena and Justice Minister Ali Sabry PC being changed as well.  Abeygunawardena, who was earlier seated in the front row, has now been assigned a seat in the second row next to Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.  Sabry, who was seated next to the Sports Minister, has been assigned a different seat.
