26 Jun 2021

Former Army Commander Gen. (Retd.) Daya Ratnayake, who has been tipped to be appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Industries, is hesitant to accept the new post, it is learnt. Gen. Ratnayake was the former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) until he was replaced by Capt. Nihal Keppetipola. A new chairman was appointed to the SLPA in order to enable Gen. Ratnayake to take over the post of Secretary to the Industries Ministry after former Secretary Anusha Palpita resigned from the post. However, Gen. Ratnayake has expressed there was no urgency in taking over the new post. It is learnt that Gen. Ratnayake was hesitant to take over the post at the Ministry after hearing from Palpita the difficulties in carrying out duties under Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa.
