Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara had recently extended an invitation to former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
Jayasekara, in his three-page letter, had invited Kumaratunga to re-join the SLFP and that it would be considered an honour to have the one-time leader of the SLFP return to the party fold.
According to the SLFP General Secretary, if Kumaratunga has any issues pertaining to the party operations and decisions, they could be openly discussed with the Party Leader and office bearers.
Jayasekara had made these observations in response to a letter sent by Kumaratunga recently to the SLFP General Secretary calling for the cancellation of a scheduled meeting last month of the SLFP’s all island working committee.
However, Jayasekara, in his letter to Kumaratunga, had explained the reason for not inviting her for the respective meeting of the all-island working committee. He had noted that an invitation was not extended since Kumaratunga had acted in contravention to the SLFP’s decision at the last presidential election.
