Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary and State Minister of Batik, Handloom Fabrics, and Local Apparel Products Dayasiri Jayasekara was in the limelight last week following a statement he made.
Jayasekara last week stated that he was ready to step down from his parliamentary post and contest as SLFP’s chief ministerial candidate for the North Western Province (NWP) at the forthcoming provincial council (PC) elections.
Addressing the media in Kurunegala, Jayasekara had said he was ready to contest for the post if requested by the SLFP.
“If we are going to contest the forthcoming PC elections as an alliance led by the SLFP, I am ready to contest as the Chief Minister for the North Western Province. During my tenure as the Chief Minister there previously, I did a great deal of work for the people and hope to further strengthen it,” he added.
