A group of farmers from the Polonnaruwa District last Wednesday (27) launched a satyagraha campaign outside Minister Siripala Gamlath’s residence in Polonnaruwa.
The protesting farmers had claimed that Gamlath had failed to address the difficulties faced by the farming community in the area. They had claimed that they were being forced out of agriculture due to increasing costs and shortage of fertiliser.
According to the farmers, even while holding Mahaweli portfolio, Gamlath had failed to resolve the crisis faced by farmers in the Mahaweli areas.
