Former Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Air Chief Marshal Sumangala Dias has been appointed as the new Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Italy. 
The parliamentary High Posts Committee had reportedly granted approval for the appointment, Parliament Secretary General Dhammika Dasanayake had announced in a statement.
Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena, Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando, Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Udaya Gammanpila, (Dr.) Ramesh Pathirana, Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, and MPs John Seneviratne, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Rishad Bathiudeen, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, and D. Siddarthan had attended the Committee on High Posts Chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
