Sunny Side Up: Former US envoy to SL to the US State Dept.

US President Joe Biden has reportedly nominated US Ambassador to Haiti and former US Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Michele Sison for the position of Assistant Secretary of State for International Organisation Affairs. Sison, who is a career ambassador, the highest rank in the US Foreign Service, has served in Haiti since 2018. She is also a respected diplomat in Port-au-Prince, where she has been outspoken about democratic governance, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. According to reports, she is experienced in global coalition building, transnational threats, peacekeeping, international development, and humanitarian relief. Apart from Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Sison has also served in Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates, as Assistant Chief of Mission in Iraq, and Deputy Chief of Mission in Pakistan. She has held the position of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs at the US State Department. The US Senate must confirm her nomination before it becomes effective.
