Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa last week hosted a group of Muslim parliamentarians to an iftar at Temple Trees.
It is interesting to note that the iftar was organised only for a group of parliamentarians from the Opposition Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) led by MP Rauff Hakeem and All-Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) led by MP Rishad Bathiudeen. These MPs were those who supported the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, violating the stance of their respective parties.
After meeting with the Prime Minister, the group of MPs participated in the iftar organised for them.
The meeting and iftar was held in the backdrop of a build up towards a parliamentary vote on the proposed Port City Commission Bill.
