The proposed walking/jogging track around the Parakrama Samudra tank in Polonnaruwa was subject to much controversy recently.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena, who hails from Polonnaruwa, last week noted that the authorities needed to receive the observations and blessings of the Maha Sangha and farmers associations in the area before embarking on such a project. The decision to proceed with the project should have been made afterwards, according to Sirisena.
