A monk from a temple in the Sooriyawewa area last Thursday (13) disrupted a meeting convened by Minister Chamal Rajapaksa in Hambantota to resolve issues related to Mahaweli lands in the district.
Rajapaksa had attended the mobile service to resolve Mahaweli land issues when a monk from the Sooriyawewa Nigrodharama Temple had arrived to complain about an issue related to the temple land.
The monk had alleged that lands vested with the temple were being surveyed and marked by the Mahaweli Authority to be distributed among several other individuals.
The monk had further alleged irregularities and corruption behind the move when the Minister had lost his cool.
Rajapaksa had quoted Buddhist teachings, saying he should learn to let go without greed. The monk, also not willing to give up, had continued with his accusations, compelling the Minister to bring the meeting to an abrupt end.
