Sunny Side Up: Nalaka’s swipe at MR

18 Sep 2021

State Minister of Urban Development, Waste Disposal, and Community Cleanliness Dr. Nalaka Godahewa last week took a swipe at Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa over certain actions or inactions during his tenure as President. Dr. Godahewa, while commending the action taken by the President and the Prime Minister against State Minister Lohan Ratwatte over his alleged threat to detainees under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) at the Anuradhapura Prison last Sunday (12), noted the failure of the government in power to act against a politician who broke into a television station a few years ago. The incident Dr. Godahewa referred to took place in 2008 under the Mahinda Rajapaksa presidency, when then Minister Mervyn Silva broke into the state-owned Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) where the employees were allegedly threatened and abused by him and finally the staff at the institution blocked and attacked him. “When a politician broke into a TV station years back, Gvt didn’t take any action and it didn’t go well with the people. But today we are happy to see President and PM responding fast when such unacceptable incidents take place. Politicians should not feel they are above the law (sic),” Godahewa tweeted.
