Former Chief Minister of the North Central Province Peshala Jayaratne has accused Leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) former President Maithripala Sirisena of engaging in nepotism in Polonnaruwa District politics.
Jayaratne had made this observation during a meeting with the media. He had alleged that despite Sirisena’s stance of standing against Rajapaksa nepotism, he was engaged in the same action in Polonnaruwa.
“Maithripala Sirisena takes all the funds and allocations made by the Government and uses them by himself while promoting nepotism. No one else is allowed to rise in politics. After shouting about Rajapaksa nepotism, what is he doing in Polonnaruwa? Everything surrounds the Sirisena family in Polonnaruwa. The economic and political powers are all held by the Sirisena family. No other person is allowed to come forward. Although we tried to come forward, we have not been allowed to do so,” Jayaratne had claimed.
“I printed posters for Sirisena 2015 and as soon as the Presidential Election concluded he asked me to contest at the next General Election and said that he would give me a good ministerial portfolio. However, when General Elections were called, I went on three occasions to get nominations, but Sirisena asked me why I wanted to enter Parliament and what I would do even if I did enter Parliament.
