A meeting was attended in Parliament last Wednesday (6) by legislators as well as Ministry of Agriculture officials to discuss issues related to the availability of fertiliser and the ongoing shortage of fertiliser, which was raised by farmers.
Addressing the meeting, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Diana Gamage, who has extended her support to the Government, had commended the Government’s move to convert to organic fertiliser and hailed the President for initiating the move.
Gamage had said all MPs should support the policy.
“This could even win a Nobel award for the country,” Gamage had added.
State Minister Duminda Dissanayake had responded saying that everyone was supportive of the policy, but its implementation had to be properly streamlined.
“There needs to be a proper mechanism. Whatever is being done needs to be streamlined. Otherwise, Nobel awards apart, we will all receive slaps from the farmers in our constituencies,” Dissanayake had said, making everyone laugh.Sunny Side Up: Of Nobel and slaps
