15 Jan 2022

Parliament authorities are looking at increasing the prices of meals offered at the Parliament canteen/restaurant given the ongoing price hikes of food commodities including vegetables, it is learnt. Accordingly, meals offered to parliament staff, visitors, etc. are to see a price increase this month. However, a final decision has not been made on whether to increase the price of meals offered to Parliamentarians. Parliament sources had been quoted in the media saying that the last price increase of Parliament meals was four years ago. The meals of executive grade officials in Parliament are to be increased from Rs. 400 to Rs. 700 per month, ordinary staff members’ meals are to be increased from Rs. 200 per month to Rs. 400. A meal for journalists covering Parliament is to be increased from Rs. 70 to Rs. 100. Parliament is to resume sessions, following last month’s prorogation, on Tuesday (18).
