Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Women’s Wing Deputy Chairperson Sumithra Priyangani Abeyweera last week claimed that the party had sealed the Women’s Wing office located on the fourth floor of the SLFP head office.
Reports, quoting Priyangani, stated that the Women’s Wing office was sealed at a time when the party was engaged in setting up women’s organisations around the country as part of the SLFP’s reforms programme.
“I, as the Deputy Chairperson of the Women’s Wing, and Secretary Chandrika Soysa or Treasurer Keerthilatha Lokuliyana were aware of the sealing of the office. We have continuously been members of the SLFP and have never left the party. I even contested from the party at the last general election from the Kalutara District. We are loyal SLFPers and we want to build our party. However, we are opposed to our party being members of the Rajapaksa Government,” she had said.Sunny Side Up; SLFP shuts women’s office?
