Tamil and Muslim parties met in Jaffna last week in a bid to form an alliance between the minority political parties in the North and South of the country.
The meeting took place last Tuesday (2).
Following the discussion, the parties had reached a consensus on standing for several key political issues. These included the full implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, holding the long-delayed provincial council elections, the dismissal of Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera as the Chair of the “one country, one law” Presidential Task Force, repealing the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) along with the release of PTA prisoners, and the halting of land grabs in the Northern and Eastern Provinces in the country.
The meeting was attended by Rauf Hakeem of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), Mano Ganesan of the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA), Selvam Adaikalanathan of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO), Dharmalingam Siddharthan of the Democratic People’s Liberation Front (DPLF), Suresh Premachandran of the Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), N.
