07 Nov 2021

By Dinitha Rathnayake The murder investigation of Amila Prasanna, alias “Sunshine Sudda”, who was known as a close associate of slain underworld leader Makandure Madush, has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Speaking to The Morning yesterday (7), Police Media Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nihal Thalduwa said the Kotawila Police handed over the case to the CID. However, the main suspect of the case still hasn’t been arrested by the Police. Prasanna was shot dead in the Kotawila area in Matara while travelling in a car near the Warakapitiya school in the Kotawila Police area in Matara. The Police said the victim was gunned down by an unidentified suspect at around 11.55 a.m. on 3 September 2021. The suspect had opened fire from a wooded area located near the school. The victim had been rushed to hospital in critical condition following the shooting but had succumbed to injuries shortly after. Prasanna was a known close associate of Makandure Madush and was among the suspects arrested with Madush at a lavish party in Dubai in 2019. The 31-year-old was once again in the news last year when he was injured in a shooting incident at the Mirissa Harbour Road on 30 May 2020. According to the Police, Prasanna, a resident of Mirissa, was connected to several major drug rackets operating within the Southern Province while there were pending cases against him at a court in Dubai and at the Matara Court. The owner of the van that was used to kill Prasanna was arrested by the Matara District Crime Investigation Unit and was later handed over to the Kotawila Police. The suspect has been identified as a 33-year-old resident of Sedawatta, Wellampitiya.
